Chinese silk products are world-renowned for their exquisite patterns and excellent sewing skills. As a lover of traditional Chinese culture, I couldn¡¯t help but stop for a visit upon finding the ¡°Chinese Silk Specialty Store¡± on the 2nd floor of Wangfujing Department Store. Luckily, I arrived just in time for the Chinese New Year sale.
The entrance had a nice, short introduction of Chinese silk in both Chinese and English. As I stepped inside, I was immersed in exquisite silk artworks in a myriad of patterns. A dark yellow silk scarf especially caught my attention. I examined it closely, and found the pattern to be an ancient Chinese drawing which described people¡¯s daily life. Price was RMB 346 after a 40% discount for the annual Spring Festival.
The hospitable shop assistant recommended a bright red silk scarf with peony flowers designs, which I thought looked elegant. Due to the piece being handmade, it was not on sale. The regular price was RMB 449.
In addition to scarves, the shop also featured handkerchiefs and silk frocks. Some discounted items could be had for as low as RMB 50, while more expensive items cost upwards of RMB 800. The shop assistants could not speak English, so you¡¯ll have to pick the designs yourself.
What I appreciated: Red peony flower silk scarf
What customers appreciate: High quality, reasonable prices
