Fashion Collections: Chinese Style for a Middle-aged Clientele

Compared with crowded neighboring shops, Fashion Collections offers a quiet atmosphere well-suited to its middle-aged clientele. Traditional Chinese apparel is the main theme here.

Near the entrance door, I noted attractive white silk scarves. These are made in the city of Hangzhou with simple embroidered patterns of peony flowers, lotus flowers, and others. Their prices ranged from RMB 50 to RMB 200.

Women’s wear is displayed close to the door, men’s wear deeper in the shop. Each garment features Chinese style elements: from using silk as a base material, to the type of collars. At the time of my visit, I saw two foreign male customers busily selecting their favorites in an array of regional brands. According to a mild-mannered shop clerk, foreign patrons are not far and between.

A large part of the shop selection comes from Hangzhou and Guangzhou, two cities renowned for the quality of their silk production. The shop assistant recommended a dark red and black cotton winter jacket. She explained that this color pattern had a popular following amongst their Chinese patrons. A close examination showed that a few tiny golden treads were stitched in the fabrics, giving it an elegant look. It was offered at RMB 468 (about EUR 45, or USD 64).

Overall, garment prices ranged from RMB 200 to RMB 800. The shop does not discount its clothes.
