RuYi HeTian Jade Shop, on the first floor of JiaMao Shopping Center, offers Hetian jade carvings, bracelets, and pendants at various levels of prices. Their HeTian jade comes from the Xinjiang province, at the northwestern edge of China, with a tradition of crafting jade artifacts for more than 7,000 years. The jade from Hetian comes in colors of white, green, blue-green, black, yellow and yellow-green, depending on the type of trace minerals within it.
According to the shop assistant, equal consideration should be given to color, clarity, and craftsmanship when purchasing jade. She showed me a jade pendant on display, a best-seller at the shop. It is pure white, has great clarity, and the shows excellent craftsmanship. And at RMB 880, this price of this pendant is very reasonable for such a beautiful piece.
The prices for different jade products tend to differ greatly. In general, prices start from RMB 400 for a pendant, but up to around RMB 12,000 for a jade carving. The shop assistant speaks good English, and can tell you many things about the history, symbolism and maintenance of different HeTian Jade products.
