When you hear IKEA, the first thing that probably comes to mind is low cost furniture. This is the true in the west, and it is true in Beijing. Speak to the younger Beijing residents, and you¡¯d see that it¡¯s a popular store for home decorations. I went to the IKEA outside the east North 3rd Ring, which offers modern furniture, home decors, and children toys.
At IKEA, you start your shopping on the third (highest) floor, where they show you the patterns for home decorations. Then go down to the 2nd floor, where you can find the merchandise you want. After that, you go down to the 1st floor to settle accounts at the counters.
The selling point of this store is the DIY (Do it yourself) service, where you can pick the designs yourself. Prices are very good. For example, a crisper set of 17 costs RMB 30. A small carpet costs RMB 9.9. According to a shop assistant, you can get some furniture or kitchenware at 20% ~ 50% discounts when on sale. A nice, firm twin mattress, for example, costs RMB 1399 after a RMB 300 discount.
The shop assistants at IKEA can speak English with foreign customers. So even if you have detailed questions, they can help you out.
What I appreciated: Simple modern design at reasonable price
What customers appreciate: Reasonable prices, good quality, modern design
