Kitty, a lovely figurine, has become very popular among young Chinese people. Near Nanluogu Lane (ÄÏÂà¹ÄÏï), a tiny shop named Kitty Fun House (èÀÖÎÝ) offers kitty toys and others items at reasonable prices.
Step into this minute shop, and you will find yourself in Kitty¡¯s pretty world at once. Lots of figurines are displayed on the shelves, some on the right wall near the entrance. There is a soothing atmosphere in the shop which makes customers feel comfortable.
The figurines come in very diverse styles, and in two main materials: ceramic and fabric. Some of them bear a cute pattern; some have been designed for use in daily life. A cute sleeping kitty in ceramics caught my eyes for its funny expression: with its eyes closed it looked like it was enjoying a sweet dream. Its right paw was tucked under its head serving as a comfortable pillow. At only RMB 99 it is hard to resist buying it for your favorite nephew.
Chinese customers have a particular preference for the ¡°Money Kitty¡± (ÕвÆè) as it is a symbol for good luck. The shop owner showed me a large Money Kitty in white ceramics, priced at RMB 398. About 30 cm tall, this figurine held golden money in its paws.
Besides the larger figurines, the shop also offers tiny kitties used to decorate cell phones, or to hold pictures. Their prices range from RMB 15 to RMB 400. The shop does not bargain with its customers, but it offers discounts on its merchandise excepted handicrafts. At the time of my visit, customers could get a 10% discount on items under RMB 100.
What I appreciated: A Sleeping Kitty, good design
What customers appreciate: Nice kitty toys, reasonable prices
