In today¡¯s hectic Beijing society, Bi Feng Tang offers a quiet oasis for Beijingers to unwind. Their name, which means shelter from the winds in English, reflects the nature of the hybrid teahouse/restaurant, where people can put aside their work and relax in a peaceful environment. Patrons can read books, surf on the internet, or simply rest a bit in tranquilly.
To enter, simply pay the entrance fee of RMB 18. The place is quite warm, with both tables and booths for you to choose. Seat yourself near a window for a nice view of the street. The servers will bring you some complimentary tea and snacks. You may do as you wish, as long as you keep it quiet. Most people like to read or surf online ¨C Bi Feng Tang provides free WIFI internet access ¨C while drinking tea and chewing on snacks.
If you are hungry, they also have an interesting menu in both Chinese and English. Choose from many types of soups, spaghettis, and desserts. A Beef Spaghetti in Black Sauce and Russian Soup, which I found delicious, costs RMB 22. Others cost less, though no less than RMB 6.
The assistants serve foreign patrons frequently, so communication is not a problem. They are quite helpful in the ordering process.
