Just opposite the Temple of Earth (Ditan Park) on Andingmen Wai Street, you may find an unique restaurant featuring about a hundred kinds of congees. The big red sign with the name of the restaurant, ¡®Hundred Conjee¡¯, will surely catch your eye as you arrive.
The restaurant is in the basement. As you go downstairs, you will see various fine congee pictures hanging on the wall. The restaurant is quite big, occupying approximate 300 sq. meters and well decorated with green leaves. Everything is clean and orderly. Be ready for the big crowds during dining hours. Chinese people love congees, and this restaurant makes some of the best.
The congees at Hundred Congee come in three types, salted congee, sweet congee, and original congee. For those who like vegetables, try their Health Salted Congee with mushroom, carrot and cauliflower at RMB 10. The Sweet Ginseng & Chinese Date Congee (RMB 12), both tasty and nutritious, is a good choice for sweet lovers. Finally for those who want the original taste of congee, without extra salt or sugar flavoring, try the famous ¡®Eight-treasure Congee¡¯ for only RMB 6.
Salted Congees cost RMB 5 ¨C 98 per bowl. Sweet Congees cost RMB 8 ¨C 15 per bowl. Original congees cost RMB 3 ¨C 10 per bowl. Of course, a bowl of congee won¡¯t fill up everyone. So the restaurant offers a variety of cold and hot appetizers, snack foods, and desserts supplement your meal. The servers there can speak a little English to help you order.
What I appreciated A great variety of congees, inexpensive prices. What customers appreciate Diverse, delicious, nutritious congees, foods, and dishes.
