Jadeite Jewelry in Beijing

Jadeite, a luxurious jewelry material, is very popular all around China. In Chinese people’s mind, it is not only a great decorative material, but also good for health.

Hengchang Jewelry specializes in jadeite items: both decorative, and ornamental. According to the shop assistant, the material used by the shop comes from Burma, the largest exporter of jadeite in the world.

For the most part, the merchandise on display consists in bracelets. I also noticed some interesting rings, pendants, brooches, and necklaces. The decorative items are sculpted representations of religious figures (Kwan-yin, Buddha) and animals (Kylins - a mythical sort of lion which never lets out what it eats, and is therefore a symbol of keeping money and prosperity in China), and safety pins.
