Shanxi Local Products ShopAt the northeast corner of Hufangqiao Intersection, there is a shop featuring the special local products of Shanxi Province. This newly-opened shop is a gray brick house with red window frames looking pretty clean.
Their products mainly include dates, liquors, vinegars, and grain crops, which are displayed on top of a long table in the middle of the room, and the shelves around the house. Big dates, Fen liquor, and mature vinegar are the most famous exclusive Shanxi products.
The big dates from Taigu County used to be a tribute to the Imperial Palace. Today, you don¡¯t need to be royalty to enjoy this product in Beijing. One 500g bag of the dried red dates costs RMB 32.
They also sell ¡°drunk dates¡±, dates soaked in liquor, at RMB 30 per pot (1 kg). Fen liquor is well-known among the Chinese, with a 45% alcohol content. One bottle of Fen liquor (450 ml) costs RMB 108.
Finally, we have the famous Shanxi mature vinegar, brewed under the hot summer sun and in the winter icy water for five years, and kept in china clay bottles. One package containing two bottles of this well-brewed mature vinegar costs RMB 130.
