Listening to soothing music from a Music Box

As the only shop to exclusively sell music boxes in Beijing, ZhiYinYuan is the best place for music boxes. Upon entering the shop, you will immediately fall into music heaven, a total departure from the noisy streets outside.

Their various designs on display look like pieces of art. Even the bamboo slips behind the cashier are designed like a Chinese traditional dulcimer, with the history of music boxes engraved.

The shop assistant was recommending a special music box for a young couple when I was there. It caught my attention. The music box has adoring swans sitting inside a beautiful pink ribbon heart, inlaid in beautiful raspberry stained elm burl. It is regularly prices at RMB 268, and the music cannot be changed. However, they can add a special tune for an additional RMB 10. You can also get it gift-wrapped for RMB 4. Makes a great gift to that someone special to your heart.

Generally, the prices at ZhiYinYuan range from RMB 68 for a common wooden music box, up to RMB 1080 for a dedicated porcelain box with an MP3 player inside. The shop assistants cannot speak English unfortunately, so you have to pick out the music box yourself.
