Muji is a Japanese retail company which sells a wide variety of household goods. Its earth-friendliness and no-logo policy make it popular among the youth. In fact, a friend of mine in Xiamen even flied to Shanghai to buy some Muji skin care products.
The company opened its first shop in Beijing this year, located inside Joy City Plaza of the famous Xidan area. Inside I found goods ranging from pens, notebooks, apparel, and even appliances.
A trademark of the company is inventive uses for materials that might otherwise have been discarded or ignored. This result in products made from recycled materials and sold at low prices. For example, a 10-pack envelop made with recycled paper cost only RMB 10 to 20.
Shop assistant could not speak English. However, the price tags are clear, and you can't bargain.
What I Appreciate: Earth-friendliness products
What Customer Appreciate: No expensive packaging, earth-friendliness products
Passing by the Bairong World Trade Center lately, my attention was drawn to a window display for Luis Vigin brand of men¡¯s apparel designed by a famous French designer. I decided to visit.
In the Shop
As I entered the Luis Vigin Men¡¯s Apparel Shop, a shop assistant greeted me immediately and made a brief introduction to me.
Luis Vigin is a brand of quality men¡¯s clothes created by French famous dress designer Iroo in 1961, whose design style embodies the word elegance. The general agent of Luis Vigin in China set up this beachhead at Bairong World Trade Center, and a clothes factory in Beijing. In addition, they have set up ¡®corners¡¯ at many large stores such as Wangfujing Department Store, Pacific Department Store, New World Department Store, Zhongyou Department Store and Guiyou Shopping Center.
This shop at Bairong World Trade Center is the leading one that offers three benefits to its customers. Firstly, all sizes are available, even for very tall foreign customers. Secondly, the shop provides custom-tailoring service. Thirdly, the shop offers attractive discounts. The ¡®corners¡¯ in department stores have to grant discounts in line with the promotional activities planned by the stores. But customers can get discounts up to 50-60% at the shop that are much higher than elsewhere, and if you buy at least ten items of clothing, you may get a discount up to 65%.
Price tags I saw here were as follows: business suits RMB 1900~6000, most of them around RMB 3380; shirts RMB 200~1180; T-shirts RMB 480~1000; neckties RMB 158~468; leather belts RMB 780~1300; leather wallets around RMB 258.
